go a variable clinical course largely determined by the size of the septal defect and the level of pulmonary vascular resistance.'-7 In perhaps half of the cases, the septal defect closes or becomes smaller.' Of those infants who retain large septal defects, some may maintain a high pulmonary vascular resistance from birth; in most, the resistance probably undergoes at least a transient decrease.1 2 These changes in vascular resistance influence the size of the intracardiac shunts and the development of cardiac failure. -3 It is not easy to correlate structural change in the pulmonary arteries with observed changes in vascular resistance because appropriate morphological data on the pulmonary vessels is scanty during this early period.3' To help fill this gap, I undertook

Right-sided Infective Endocarditis with Multiple Large Vegetations in a Case of Ventricular Septal Defect: A Case Report

Herein, we present the case of a 10-year-old child suffering from right-sided infective endocarditis with ventricular septal defect. Echocardiography revealed multiple rare large vegetations on the pulmonary valve extending into pulmonary artery along with a large vegetation over the septal leaflet of the tricuspid valve.

Integrated Percutaneous Atrial Septal Defect Occlusion and Pulmonary Balloon Valvuloplasty

Introduction: Atrial Septal Defect (ASD) is one of the most common congenital heart diseases during childhood. Today, ASD closure is done by occlutech device via cardiac catheterization. ASD repair with transcatheter technique has shown high closure rate. However, coexistence of severe pulmonary stenosis and large defect in atrial septum is rare. When these two problems coexist, the result is i...

Histology of pulmonary arterial supply in pulmonary atresia with ventricular septal defect.

A histologic study was performed on 22 specimens of pulmonary atresia with ventricular septal defect to 1) ascertain the existence of the main pulmonary artery; 2) distinguish the ductus arteriosus from the systemic collateral arteries (SCA); 3) establish the nutritive or functional nature of collateral circulation; and 4) evaluate the morphology of the distal pulmonary bed. Three cases had abs...
